Is Chipotle Halal? The UK Branches, the US Answer and What to Order

In the UK, some Chipotle restaurants serve halal chicken. Chipotle UK says, “Our raw chicken is halal certified”, and lists nine restaurants that serve it: Canary Wharf, the O2, Baker Street, Twickenham, Guildford, Lakeside, Uxbridge, White City Westfield and Westfield Stratford City. Chipotle calls this “halal suitable”, because the restaurants also serve pork and alcohol, and cross contamination can’t be ruled out.

In the US and Canada, Chipotle’s meat isn’t halal. Halal Monitoring Services (HMS) says it has never inspected Chipotle’s meat. This guide covers the UK branches, the US answer, the Middle East, and what you can order if you’re not eating the meat.

Is Chipotle halal in the UK?

Partly. Here’s what Chipotle UK says on its halal page:

• The raw chicken is halal certified. Steak, barbacoa and carnitas (pork) aren’t.
• Only at nine restaurants. Canary Wharf, O2, Baker Street, Twickenham, Guildford, Lakeside Shopping Centre, Uxbridge, White City Westfield and Westfield Stratford City.
• “Halal suitable”, not halal. The chicken “is marinated in a facility that may handle non halal products”. The restaurants serve pork and alcohol, and “cross contamination cannot be fully ruled out”.

Chicken al Pastor

In January 2026, Chipotle UK brought back Chicken al Pastor and said it would offer “a halal suitable preparation of Chicken al Pastor at nearly half of its UK restaurants for a limited time”. Ask your restaurant whether it’s the halal suitable version before you order.

What “halal suitable” means for you

• Many Muslims eat the chicken at these branches, choosing to avoid the pork and making sure staff change gloves and use separate utensils.
• Others avoid the restaurants because carnitas is prepared on the same line, the chicken marinade is made where non halal products are handled, and alcohol is served.

Is Chipotle halal in London?

At seven London area branches: Canary Wharf, the O2, Baker Street, Twickenham, Uxbridge, White City Westfield and Westfield Stratford City. Guildford and Lakeside are the other two UK branches on the list. Other London Chipotles don’t serve halal chicken.

Is Chipotle halal in the USA?

No. Chipotle US doesn’t serve halal meat. HMS says: “Chipotle is not on the HMS certified list, and HMS has never inspected the sourcing, storage or preparation behind the meat served at Chipotle.” You may see posts claiming a particular US Chipotle has halal chicken. Unless the restaurant can show a certificate, treat that as unconfirmed.

Is Chipotle halal in Canada?

No. Chipotle Canada doesn’t serve halal meat.

Is Chipotle halal in the Middle East?

Chipotle opened in Kuwait in April 2024 and in Dubai in October 2024, run by Alshaya Group, and has since opened in Abu Dhabi. Chipotle’s press releases don’t mention halal, but food sold in the UAE and Kuwait must meet halal rules. Check for the certificate in the restaurant.

Does Chipotle have pork?

Yes. Carnitas is pork. In the UK, it’s made from pork, salt, spices, thyme and bay leaves. It’s prepared on the same line as the other fillings.

What can Muslims order at a Chipotle that isn’t halal?

When you order a veggie bowl, ask staff to change gloves and use clean utensils, because they handle carnitas on the same line.
